Durkac Karting - 2008 Year In Review

Derek Demers, Andrew Prescott and Steve Durkac

The racing season has come to an end as Durkac Karting Arrow racing karts reflects back on an outstanding 2008 season.

Novice class driver, Andrew Prescott had an excellent season being that it was his first year in kart racing. Andrew started his season off with the famous Sturgeon Falls Grand Prix street circuit. He qualified his Arrow Kart third out of nine karts which led him to take a well deserved third place in which he also secured the fastest lap. Starting from third for the final Andrew came across with some bad luck and mechanical problems that deprived him of a good result.

Racing in the Sudbury Kart Club Novice class Andrew put his Arrow kart on pole four times , took five wins and broke the novice track record. He then broke his own track record four times during the season. He did however, miss two races due to prior commitments.

Andrew Prescott

Always eager to learn and try new things, Andrew and his Dad Carl worked very hard all year long and were dedicated to every kart practice no matter what the weather was. The long hours they put in paid off at the end of the season as Andrew Prescott 'The Car Lot Etc' Arrow Kart won the Sudbury Kart Club Novice 2008 Championship and Rookie of the year.

Senior Rotax driver Derek Demers had an quite the outstanding year. With a win at the Sturgeon Falls Grand Prix street race, Derek put himself on display all year, achieving four poles, seven victories, breaking the track record in Senior Rotax and then breaking his own record three times during the year. Pushing his Arrow kart to the limits at every race he was always the man to beat.

Derek and his Dad Peter put a lot of long hours on and off the track which lead them to winning the Sudbury Kart Club Senior Rotax 2008 Championship!

Looking for a different challenge Derek entered the last four races in the Senior Heavy Honda class in Sudbury. The Senior heavy class was very competitive this year with a large field of karts. He did an outstanding job, being his first time ever racing a Honda. Derek finished second, third and fifth with one mechanical problem during his first race.

Derek Demers

During the last race of the season in Senior Heavy Derek qualified second and finished third. The last race of the season in Senior Heavy Honda, Derek qualified second and finished a hard fought third. He managed to break the old track record previously set by Marc Stehle in '06 ( 31.33 ). With a lap of 31.23, set in the Senior Heavy class he now holds the record for both Senior Heavy and Senior Rotax classes. Congratulations! A nice way to end a new challenge.

Senior Heavy Honda driver Steve Durkac had quite the roller coaster ride this past season.

The very competitive Senior Heavy class was the biggest grids ever in the club's history with 23 karts. There were plenty highs and lows at every race. It was always the class to watch. Steve put his Arrow kart on pole four times and took four wins. Also he participated in the Masters Honda class at the Sturgeon Falls Grand Prix street race, taking his Arrow kart from pole position to the win.

In the last two races of the season, Steve and his Arrow kart set the pace, storming off from pole to take the lead in all heats to the checkered flag. What a way to end the season! This was Steve's fourth Senior Heavy Championship in a row.

Steve Durkac

Steve Durkac 'Arrow Kart' won the Sudbury Kart Club 2008 Senior Heavy Honda Championship!
